Office Chair Castors for Wooden Floors

Standard office chair wheels are made of hard nylon — fine on carpet, ruinous on timber. If your chair lives on wooden, laminate or engineered boards, this page is the fix.

Why hard castors damage wood

Hard nylon grinds dust and grit into the floor finish every time you move. Over months it wears pale arcs into the lacquer exactly where you sit. The chair also skates about on its own, because there's nothing soft enough to grip.

The wood-safe answer: soft PU castors

Our Soft PU Castor Wheels – Set of 5, Grey Trim (from £6.99) have soft polyurethane tyres that grip rather than skate. They roll near-silently, never scratch, and fit the universal 11mm push-in stem found on standard office and gaming chairs.

Prefer a splash of colour? The same wood-safe wheels come in pink, red, purple and silvery grey.

Or stop rolling altogether

If your chair stays put anyway, chrome steel glides (£17.99) replace the wheels with fixed feet — nothing rolls, nothing scratches.

Fitting: five minutes, no tools

  1. Flip your chair over.
  2. Pull each old castor straight out — a firm tug does it.
  3. Push the new ones in until they click.

Will they fit my chair?

If your castor stem measures 11mm across, yes — that's the standard on nearly all office chairs. IKEA chairs use 10mm and are the one common exception. Unsure? Email a photo of your castor pin to info@chairoutlet.co.uk for a free fit-check.
