Short answer: no — and we'd rather tell you before you buy. IKEA office chairs use a 10mm castor stem, while nearly every other office chair on Earth (and every castor and glide we sell) uses the industry-standard 11mm. One millimetre doesn't sound like much, but in the world of push-fit castors it's the difference between a satisfying click and a wobbly disappointment heading back to the post office.
We're a chair-parts shop. Telling you not to buy from us is an odd way to open an article, but a good chunk of our returns used to be lovely people with IKEA chairs and the wrong castors. So let's save everyone the journey.
Almost the entire office chair industry settled on the 11mm push-in stem (7/16" diameter, about 22mm long) decades ago. It's the fitting on operator chairs, gaming chairs, executive chairs — from budget brands to premium ones. IKEA, in classic IKEA fashion, does its own thing: a 10mm stem, which means standard replacement castors sit loose in an IKEA base and IKEA castors won't grip in a standard base. Neither combination is safe to sit on.
All of them, as far as we've ever seen — including the popular office models: MARKUS, MILLBERGET, JÄRVFJÄLLET, FLINTAN, RENBERGET and LÅNGFJÄLL. If your chair came flat-packed with an Allen key and a Swedish name, assume 10mm.
Not sure? Email a photo of the pin to info@chairoutlet.co.uk — our free fit-check will confirm before you spend a penny.
Go straight to IKEA's own spare parts service — they supply replacement castors for their chairs, often free of charge. It's the right part for your chair, and we'd rather point you there than see you in our returns queue. (Your IKEA chair is a perfectly good chair. It just speaks a different language underneath.)
For the vast majority of office and gaming chairs, our Aeten® sets of five push-fit straight in with no tools, fitted in about five minutes:
Everything carries a 12-month warranty, parts ordered before 11am dispatch the same working day, and delivery to mainland UK is free. We've been fitting Britain's chairs from Colchester since 2006 — 4.7★ across 1,200+ Amazon ratings, where you'll find us under our registered brand, Aeten®.
What size stem do IKEA chair castors have? 10mm — smaller than the 11mm industry standard.
What's the standard castor stem size for office chairs? 11mm diameter × 22mm long, push-fit. It covers nearly all non-IKEA office and gaming chairs.
Can I make 11mm castors fit an IKEA chair with an adapter? We don't recommend it. Sleeved or forced fittings can work loose under a seated adult — not a risk worth taking for the sake of a castor.
How do I know for certain before ordering? Pull a castor, measure the pin, or email a photo to info@chairoutlet.co.uk for a free fit-check. Right part, first time.
